This course is a general survey of that classic era of American popular music from the 1920s to the 1950s which is commonly referred to as The Great American Songbook. We will explore the songs, songwriters, lyricists and composers, including Arlen, Berlin, Gershwin, Kern, Porter and Rodgers. Recordings, video clips and class discussion will be used to augment lecture material.
